Going Viral was coauthored by Jeff Hemsley and Karine Nahon. These are both authors with very extensive résumé’s, and it really provides some context to the great work they accomplished with Going Viral

Jeff Hemsley

Jeff received his Ph.D. from University of Washington, where he founded an award winning “Social Media Lab.” Jeff now works at Syracuse University where he has founded another lab. Its called the Behavior, Information, Technology and Society Laboratory (BITS lab). The university describes Jeff’s current duties as follows, “He is a computational social scientist, drawing on theories from sociology and communication to study social media. His current research looks at information diffusion in social media networks, with an emphasis on social movements and political events.” (Hemsley)

Karine Nahon

            Karine, like Jeff, has a background at the University of Washington, but she actually did her studies at Tel Aviv University. She currently teaches at University of Washington, in their information school. The University of Washington describes her by listing her three specialty fields, “(1) information flows and network gatekeeping; (2) digital divide/s and inequalities; and (3) cultured technology.”(Gatekeeper)

Karine Nahon

Interaction

Both Jeff and Karine interact with their readers through different networks. Jeff is very active on Twitter (@JeffHemsley) where he posts articles he finds interesting, and answers questions including those about this book. Karine on the other hand has an entire website to herself.
